Stephen Moss, writing about the best nature books of the year in the Guardian on 11th December, says: '... if I had to choose just one book from this year's many offerings, it would be The Butterflies of Britain and Ireland. Our greatest butterfly expert, Jeremy Thomas, and leading insect illustrator, Richard Lewington, have joined forces to produce the perfect combination of accurate information, fascinating facts and sheer beauty. This is not just the nature book of 2010, but also one to treasure for many years to come.'

about british wildlife
British Wildlife Publishing was set up in 1989 by Andrew and Anne Branson, and over the last two decades has established an enviable position as a highly respected small independent publishing house specialising in natural history magazines and books.

Although there were a few publications that focussed on specific areas of the natural world (particularly birds), there was no broader publication that embraced the full spectrum of British wildlife, appealing both to the serious naturalists and the increasing number of professionals involved in conservation. Andrew, unable to find a magazine that fitted the bill, and with a long career in publishing, decided to create his own. And so British Wildlife was born.

Over the past 21 years, the magazine has gone from strength to strength, and has a well-earned reputation. British Wildlife Publishing was a natural publisher for its sister publication, Conservation Land Management (originally published by Natural England), covering all aspects of managing land with wildlife in mind. The company has also produced a very successful list of specialist entomological books, drawing on some of the leading specialists in their field and the internationally recognised skills of artist Richard Lewington.

British wildlife teamBritish Wildlife Publishing remains an independent company, with a small, dedicated staff, who pride themselves on providing a first-class product, matched with first-class customer care. We believe that small is best, as this means that we can provide a personal service to our customers and create publications that have been produced with care and attention to detail. Andrew and Anne are assisted by Philippa Wadsworth, who takes care of subscriptions, customer orders, enquiries, and so on, and who will help sort out any queries you may have. The final member of our team is Millie – being a dog, she contributes little to the business, but you may hear her barking should you call the office when the postman is around…
