Guidance on management planning

It is generally accepted within the nature-conservation community that it is advisable to have a management plan for a site. The production of such a plan is an important step in identifying the key features of a site, defining the objectives for the management of the site and to establish a programme of actions to achieve those objectives. Possessing a written plan also provides for continuity in management should there be a change in the people responsible for site management. The Countryside Commission (now the Countryside Agency) has recently produced a step-by-step guide to producing a management plan. The publication, Site Management Planning - A Guide (reference CCP 527), is available from Countryside Agency Postal Sales, PO Box 124, Walgrave, Northampton NN6 9TL, or tel. 01604 781 848. It is priced £12.50 inclusive of postage and packing, and cheques should be made payable to the Countryside Agency.
