Take a small West Midlands city, surrounded by rolling hills and small fields. Add 4,500 houses. Let's make things a little harder: put all the houses on an area of ancient farmland, which has dozens of ponds that hold internationally important numbers of Great Crested Newts Triturus cristatus. Oh, and there are also 28km of ancient hedgerows, and a couple of ancient, semi-natural woodlands for good measure. Repeat as necessary.
