Through a naturalist’s eyes
"I wake up hours before I need to get up, and often lie contentedly looking out of the window and watching the world come to life. One day last August, at 05.00, I had a wonderful surprise. It was a dull morning and everything was in dark silhouette against a grey sky. A large bird flew in and settled on the dead limb of an Ash tree. At first I thought that it was one of the resident crows, but its head was not right. Reaching for the bedside binoculars, I was able to get a better view. It was clearly a Peregrine Flacon!"
