"The grouse-shooting season traditionally opens on the 'Glorious Twelfth' of August. Since the Game Act of 1831, this has been the date when you and I could head into the heather-clad hills to shoot the UK race of the Willow Grouse, which we call the Red Grouse. Formerly, grouse were shot during "walked-up" shooting, whereby a small parts of "guns" walks across the hillside and fires at any game that are flushed in front of it."
