By - Peter Jennings

Welsh Water's Elan Estate is the largest single area of land owned by any of the national water companies, comprising some 10% of the total. The 70 square miles of moorland, bog, woodland, river and reservoir lies to the west of Rhayader in mid-Powys. It is of national importance for its diversity of lower plants and the most important area for landbirds in Wales.
