The History of the Beaver in Scotland and the Case for its Reintroduction
After successfully ridding our waterways of one large rodent, the alien Coypu, Myocastor coypus, of South America, Britain may be about to see the return of Europe's largest rodent and a former inhabitant, the Eurasian Beaver, Castor fiber. In 1995, Scottish Natural Heritage announced that as one of its Species Action Programmes for 1996 a study will be carried out to assess the feasibility of reintroducing the Beaver to Scotland.
