In most years there are reports from around Britain and Ireland of marine turtles found entangled in fishing equipment, stranded on beaches or seen swimming in coastal waters. Often these sightings generate considerable local and national interest, as most people generally associate turtles with tropical and subtropical environments and not with the cool waters which surround our own shores.
