Martin Willing’s involvement with molluscs developed as a childhood hobby to become a life-long passion on a personal, academic and professional basis. Following postgraduate molluscan-related research, he worked in further education and mollusc-related ecological consultancy. His interest in European Mollusca, especially with non-marine faunas, has led to an involvement with many governmental and voluntary conservation organisations, undertaking surveys as well as advising, researching and writing on all manner of molluscan ecological and conservation-related matters. He has been a member of the Conchological Society of Great Britain and Ireland since 1965, acting as their Conservation Officer since 1984 and being elected in 2018 to serve for a term as Hon President.

His involvement with British Wildlife stretches back 25 years to 1994, when he started to produce the molluscs column in the wildlife reports, which he has undertaken since that time, as well as submitting main articles and occasional molluscan book reviews.
