Saving the Cirl Bunting… and lots more

My first contact with the Cirl Bunting Emberiza cirlus was at Beachy Head, Sussex, in 1980. By chance I came across a couple of birdwatchers who were watching a small brown lump preched on a gorse bush. As I got my binoculars on it, it disappeared. Two years later, all the Cirl Buntings had disappeared from Sussex.
