Identification: Prominent and kitten moths

Prominent and kitten moths are both members of the family Notodontidae. Both the vernacular and the scientific names for the family refer to the tooth-like projections which stick up prominently from the back of the moths at rest, and also from the back of many of their catepillars. This article concentrates on the identification of the prominent and kitten moths resident in the British Isles.
