A naturalist abroad: Picos de Europa, northen Spain

The Picos de Europa is one of those rare places in western Europe today where man and his environment live together in almost perfect harmony. Small pantile-roofed villages nestle amid tracts of flower-filled hay meadows beneath a stunning landscape of jagged limestone peaks, while more remote areas are still clothed with ancient forests of Beech Fagus sylvatica and oak Quercus.
