Through a naturalist’s eyes

"It was a nostalgic visit to the Wildlife Trust reserve called Glapthorn Cow Pastures, as I had not been to the wood since I was a schoolboy. It is a strange name for a wood but, until about 20 years ago, the site consisted of fields where the local cattle were grazed. This practice fell into disuse, the area became covered with Blackthorn scrub and the commoners relinquished their rights."
