The status and ecology of the Yellow Wagtail in Britain

'Amongst the host of summer migrants that return to Britain every years to breed, few are more attractive than the Yellow Wagtail. Running nimbly within inches of grazing cattle, their slight bodies are often hidden, but bright colours, golden as dandelions, catch the eye' So said Seago (2000) but, sadly, the population of Yellow Wagtails Motacilla flava in the UK seems to be in steep decline.
