"I'm pleased the Archbishop managed to put in a word on behalf of the oil-stricken cormorants during the Thanksgiving Sevice for victory in the Gulf. When Stealth bombers and Scud missiles are forgotten, I fancy that 'the accusing glare in a cormorant's eye' will haunt us still. But, I suggest, it wasn't so much the bird's distressed state that was unsettling as the directness of its appeal."
