Through a naturalist’s eyes

"Sixty or so years ago, small boys wore short trousers. And in summer they wore sandals with no socks. The bare flesh of my lower extremeties seriously dampened my zest for exploring the countryside, because I had no defence against Stinging Nettles. Picking my way along an overgrown path would leave me tingling from knees to toes."
