Identifying voles from their field signs

Many British mammals, especially the smaller species, can be difficult to observe or survey directly. Live trapping, often with Longworth or Sherman traps, is frequently used as a technique for surveying small mammals but can be costly and time-consuming, and is potentially stressful for the animals.
