Through a naturalist’s eyes

"A likely sign that there are plentiful leatherjackets in grassland, including lawns and golf courses, is a flock of Starlings striding across the sward and eagerly probing the ground with their pointed beaks. Small flocks of Starlings are more common when nesting has finished, floating around in lazy circles to land on trees or descending to feed on the ground (BW 22: 9)."
