The enigmatic Erebia – the Scotch Argus in Britain

For those lucky enough to have seen hundreds of freshly emerged, almost black, adults suddenly rising, as if from nowhere, as sunlight spreads out over the stunning landscapes that they inhabit, the Scotch Argus Erebia aethiops can be a bewitching, but perhaps also a puzzling species.
