A history of the White Stork in Britain

The authors unearth the evidence of the White Stork’s existence in Britain in centuries past, and wonder whether there is a case for its reintroduction.

It is not known when the White Stork Ciconia ciconia ceased to breed in Britain. In fact, we have no clear indication of where the last of their ancient, colonial nesting sites may have been nor a clear understanding of why this bird failed to survive in the UK.
