Michael Viney (1933–2023)
Former British Wildlife columnist, Michael Viney, passed away last May, aged 90. Readers may remember his ‘Views from the Far West Coast’, which ran from 2001 to 2017, but in Ireland he was best known for his Saturday contributions to the Irish Times, one of the longest-running columns in the world, which lasted from 1977 to February 2023, only months before his death.
