Limestone grassland encompasses some of the most valued wildlife habitats in Britain, particularly in terms of botanical and invertebrate diversity and speciality. Some types of calcareous grassland hold important bryophyte communities, especially sparse short turf with exposed bare soil pockets, scree rubble and rock surfaces.
