Through a naturalist’s eyes

"I once visited Lake Takern, Sweden's answer to Minismere. It is a very good answer: it has five species of grebe, Osprey, Caspian Tern, and many fewer people. It also has a large population of Bearded Tits. The highlight of my visit was the unrivalled views of these birds, one of my favourites. I once wrote that, although the suggestion would make me unpopular, the Bearded Tit would make an excellent cage-bird, except that it is a hopeless songster."
