Many people refill their ponds in the summer using hosepipes, which often results in adding nitrate-rich water. A simple answer that could be more widely used is to collect the rainwater from the roof, which has the further merit of reducing water consumption. The solution we have is to run a second downpipe from the gutter into a water butt, with the overflow running into the pond.
