The Suffolk coast south of Lowestoft can boast a string of famous nature reserves and protected sites, including Minsmere and Orfordness. The northernmost of these is the little-known but fascinating NNR of Benacre Broad, comprising three coastal lagoons, one of the largest reedbeds in Britain, and various associated coastal habitats. It is a site where English Nature faces some difficult decisions as the sea threatens to invade and to alter the character and specialised natural life of the site.
