Classic Wildlife Sites: Flamborough Headland

The dramatic cliffs of Flamborough Headland, where the chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds meets the sea, are one of the most spectacular features on the east coast of England. At their highest point they reach more than 130m, around twice the height of York Minster, some 64 km to the west.

Currently under consideration for designation as a National Landscape, Flamborough Headland is one of the most significant sites in Britain. Jonathan Mullard describes the unique geology of the headland, its marine environment and  its importance for breeding birds.
