Comment: Next steps for the GCSE in Natural History
Mary Colwell
Pages 391-395
The concept of a GCSE in Natural History was borne out of a personal concern about the lack of connection between young people and the natural world. I made the idea public in 2011, and since then it has gained support from a wide range of organisations and the public.
Following a long and hard-fought campaign, the incumbent government has confirmed that they will proceed with the development of a Natural History GCSE in UK schools. Mary Colwell describes the campaign so far, her role within it and her hopes and fears as the government moves forward with the proposal.
