A previous article (BW 24: 305–315) provided an overview of the origins, special wildlife value, and conservation management initiatives across Windsor Great Park, Windsor Farms (formerly the Royal Farms), Windsor Forest and two of the three formal landscape gardens which comprise the Windsor Estate managed by the Crown Estate. Although written only 13 years ago there have been major changes in conservation management at Windsor in the time since, with oversight by his Majesty King Charles III in his capacity as ‘Ranger of The Great Park’.
While Windsor Forest and Great Park face several challenges including generation gaps in its ancient and veteran trees, the Crown Estate remains proactive in tackling these problems. Keith Alexander et al. describe the species, habitats, and conservation practices of the site and celebrate the wildlife riches of this special place.
