"Compared with the effort put into feeding garden birds, the interest shown in mammals is second-rate. They are the 'poor man' taking crumbs from the 'rich man's table'; often only tolerated and sometimes actively discouraged. Yet what possibilities there are! The three Pine Martens on Lady McKissock's Highland birdtable illustrated in the Handbook of British Mammals may be unique, but foxes and Wood Mice can be seen visiting subirban birdtables.
