Conserving Britain’s Rarest Moths

In 1987 the known population of the British subspecies of the Essex Emerald, Thetidia smaragdaria maritima, was just 11 caterpillars. The Barberry Carpet, Pareulype berberata, was known only from a single hedgerow in Suffolk. Today the Black-veined Moth, Siona lineata, is confined to two fields in Kent.
