Agenda 2000 – the Common Agricultural Policy reform proposals

Recent decades have seen a revolution in food producing technology throughout the Western world that has left the prospect of serious food shortages a distant memory. The environmental and social impacts of the modernisation of European farming have been widely recognised, and the profound impact of intensive production systems on landscapes, human culture, biological diversity and nature conservation value is well documented.
