Morels and their allies – spring spore-shooters

The appearance of our larger fungi during late summer, increasing in abundance throughout autumn and then dwindling with the first winter frosts, it a well-known phenomenon. However, Britain's vernal fungi, species which fruit only in the spring, are rarely looked for or noticed. The exception is the familiar edible St George's Mushroom Tricholoma gambosum.
