It is now widely accepted that the world's climate is changing as a result of man's activity (IPCC 1996). In Britain, the predicted changes include milder winters, warmer drier summers in the south-east, increased rainfall (especially in the north and west), increased storm frequency, increased wind speeds and sea-level rise, all of which could have very significant adverse effects on the country's wildlife.
