Sea Eagles – reclaiming the west

We have been monitoring the Golden Eagle Aguila chrysaetos population of the Isle of Skye for close on 20 years, by annually checking all the pairs known to us and recording their breeding success. For 13 years, we also monitored the breeding attempts on the island of the White-tailed or Sea Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla. This magnificent bird of prey has been reintroduced to Scotland by importing chicks from Norway and releasing them from a base on Rum as part of a special project by conservationists which began in 1975 (Love 1983).
