Through a naturalist’s eyes

"There is a flood warning on our stretch of the River Great Ouse, as there often is, and the river meadows are underwater. Watching the water rushing through the piers of the old stone bridge and creeping up the banks is fascinating, provided that your own property is not in danger. The maps on the Environment Agency's website show that I live just outside the Flood Warning zone and confirm that the danger area coincides with the floodplain."
