"One hundred years ago, Barrett-Hamilton described the Wood Mouse as 'extremely beautiful,… not… intelligent' – a bimbo mouse in other words. Intelligence is not the easiest characteristic of an animal to assess, but Wood Mice are certainly adaptable and have a number of interesting habits. They live in small colonies based on extensive burrow systems with communal nests and food stores. They are champion jumpers, managing 1m standing leaps, and they are good climbers, using the long tail as a balancer as they shin up fine twigs."
