Through a naturalist’s eyes

"It was an axiom of medieval naturalists – writers of the bestiaries – that for every animal on land its equivalent could be found in the sea. They had started with the obvious: from horses (Walruses) and pigs (Dugongs) to urchins and scorpions, even maids. Since then, a vaierty of marine animals has been named after land animals, prefixed with 'sea', from a real or imaginary resemblance. Plants have not been overlooked, with sea cucumberss, lilies and the little-known but abundant Sea Orange."
