Through a naturalist’s eyes

"I find woods disappointing for birdwatching. A nice mixed wood is no doubt as full of birds as an egg is of meat, but they are too well hidden for my liking. If I do manage to track one down, it is probably not doing much, in which case my interest quickly wanes. Give me coastal country, where land and sea meet. The transition lends diversity through two communities blending and overlapping, and there is plenty to watch."
