Military training is often cosidered to be in conflict with nature-conservation interests: heavy tanks near up sensitive vegetation, flares and incendiaries cause fires, and troop-training disturbs wildlife. If carried out without regard for the conservation interest, these activities will undoubtedly be damaging. However, conservation is becoming integral to the planning of military training activities, and the need to achieve favourable conservation status is being recognised.
