Letter from the far West Coast

"Sight of a proper ship is rare in my corner of the Atlantic, where Mayo and Galway meet. One little red lobster boat from Connemara and the occasional white triangle of a visiting summer yacht only seem to emphasise the general emptiness of the sea. The arrival of an undeniable vessel, superstructure gleaming in the autumn morning sun, thus took on special charisma."
