Keskadale – an oakwood on the edge

Scattered across the uplands of the northern Lake District fells is a series of small, fragmented oak woodlands. Amongst these are Keskadale and Birkrigg woods, located around the Newlands Valley, near Keswick, while Young Wood, the smallest of these fragments, is several miles north on the fells of Mungrisedale.
