Upland Birds and their Conservation

The term 'upland' is conveniently broad for the generality of high land in Britain – mountain, hill and fell, all connoting ground of some altitude and often pronounced relief. Yet definitions based on some arbitrary elevation above sea level are unsatisfactory, for the farther north one goes, the lower the altitude at which ground of upland character is found.
