Identification – British Newts

Look into a British pond on a springtime evening and it is likely that you will see at least one of our three British species of newt. The destruction of our wetlands, and the protected status of the Great Crested Newt, have led to an increased interest in surveying for these animals. This is a rewarding exercise as newts are colourful animals and their natural history is of great interest.
