Through a naturalist’s eyes

"It is mis-September and I am looking out on a sodden landscape. In the middle of the field over the garden hedge there are several acres of wheat that have yet to be harvested. A brief dry spell has allowed some combining to take place, but the rain returned before the job could be completed. Wildlife reports will no doubt confirm a miserable wet summer and we shall learn how wildlife fared."
