Dordogne – an exotic England? An introduction to the wildlife and nature conservation of a rural French département

Dordogne is the third largest French département and one of the original 83 created in 1790 after the Revolution. Previously, the area has been known as Périgord. It is approximately diamond-shaped and 125km at its two long axes, and is a part of the administrative region of Aquitaine.
