Twitcher in the Swamp

"George Orwell named his famous book The Road to Wigan Pier as a joke. Wigan is nowhere near the seaside and its so-called pier was only a rickety wooden jetty where coal was loaded onto the canal barges. It had gone by the time Orwell made his trip 'oop north' leaving only a silly song by George Formby to remind folk that it had every existed."
