Comment: Action on Climate Change: what needs to be done?

Following widespread demonstrations against climate change in April 2019, Mark Avery discusses the protesters’ demands and explains what individuals and governments would need to do to tackle the ‘climate emergency’.

Recent weeks have seen the publication of major reports on global biodiversity conservation (Diaz et al. 2019) and how the UK can reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions to net zero by 2050 (Committee on Climate Change 2019), as well as sporadic school strikes by pupils to highlight climate change and action by Extinction Rebellion (XR) closing down parts of London in a very friendly but disruptive manner.
