Natural reflections

“At first glance the urban pavement seems a hostile habitat, baked dry by summer sun and scoured by winter winds, its surface pounded by passers-by and washed by all kinds of substances best not investigated too closely. To opportunist plants such as grasses, however, our thoroughfares are heat-islands whose cracks and crannies can be nutrient-rich nurseries.”
