The wildlife and history of Grace Dieu

Stephen Woodward presents some of the highlights from intensive biological recording at Grace Dieu in Charnwood Forest, an unusual rocky outpost in the low-lying agricultural landscape of north-west Leicestershire.

Travellers on the M1 motorway through the East Midlands will have noticed a prolonged climb as they approach Loughborough, when a range of hills comes into view. This elevated ground (above 120m) bordered by Leicester, Loughborough and Ashby-de-la-Zouch is known as Charnwood Forest.
