The Dormouse, Muscardinnus avellanarius, is a mammal whose name everyone knows but one that is very seldom seen, even by professional ecologists. This is small wonder when you consider that Dormice are tiny, nocturnal and spend all their active lives in trees and shrubs often high above ground. Claely they are not likely to be seen on a casual visit to the woods.
